Bangladesh has a total of 15 airports. However, Bangladesh has three airports that serve international flights, while the remaining twelve provide domestic flights. Moreover, there are two types of Airports in Bangladesh. These are :

  1. International Airports
  2. Domestic Airports

International Airports in Bangladesh:

An international airport serves as a point of entrance and exit for international aviation traffic, where customs, immigration, public health, animal and plant quarantine, and other processes are carried out. Moreover, these airports adhere to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines.

  • Secondly, Shah Amanat International Airport, Chattogram
  • Thirdly, Osmani International Airport, Sylhet

1. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka:

This is the most important and largest international airport in the country. However, it is located in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Moreover, HSIA is where almost all international visitors come and depart. In addition, more than 90% of CAAB’s aeronautical tasks are delegated to it.

2. Shah Amanat International Airport, Chattogram:

This airport is located in the port city of Chattogram. However, it serves as a backup to HSIA and is the country’s second largest airport.

  • Parking: This airport provides parking facilities. Moreover, any passenger vehicle can be parked for up to 24 hours at this airport.
  • Banking Services: SAIA provides banking services. In addition, the terminal provides foreign currency exchange facilities.
  • Hotel Reservations: Reservations for hotels can be made via the Shah Amanat International Airports Authority. From the airport lounge, anyone may reserve a hotel.
  • Security: A large number of armed forces soldiers, as well as closed circuit cameras, are there for security purposes.
  • FIDS and Luggage Wrapping: The Airport Authority also offers a Flight Information Display System (FIDS) and luggage wrapping services.

3. Osmani International Airport, Sylhet:

It is located in the city of Sylhet, in Bangladesh’s north-east corner. Moreover, it was renovated to create an international institution to better serve the residents of the region, which is known for its significant British population.

Domestic Airports in Bangladesh:

An airport that only handles domestic or intra-Bangladesh flights is referred to as a “domestic airport”. Moreover, in Bangladesh, there are a total of 12 domestic airports. However, only five of these airports are currently operational. Three airports are requesting permission to operate, while the others do not.

Operational Domestic Airports in Bangladesh:

Bangladesh currently has five operational domestic airports. Moreover, from these airports, passengers may fly to various locations in Bangladesh.

  • Secondly, Shah Makhdum Airport, Rajshahi

Needs prior approval for Domestic air operation:

These three airports are completely prepared and equipped to handle domestic flights. However, these domestic airports will begin to work after getting approval.

Non-Functioning Airports:

Although three airports are operational, none of them provides any services. The airport’s list is given below:

  • Firstly, Ishurdi Airport
  • Secondly, Comilla Airport (STOL)
  • Thirdly, Thakurgaon Airport.

Under Construction Airports:

One of Bangladesh’s incomplete airports is the Khan Jahan Ali Airport in Bagherhat. However, in the near future, it is anticipated to receive authorization for a fully operating aircraft activity.
